  • 50 State Quarters Program- In case you're new to the program, here's how it works: In 1999, the United States Mint began striking a new quarter about every ten weeks to honor one of the 50 states—that is, five new quarters every year—until the program ends. The quarters are struck in the same order as the states' "birthdays."
  • Built Environment Artifacts- Students are engaged in a field-based study of human-made objects and processes that represent the economic and social development of the community throughout its history.
  1. America's Heritage: An Adventure in Liberty Pt. 7: The United States Flag- Students learn about the value and meaning of the U. S. flag as a symbol of freedom and unity by examining the various elements of the flag as well as the official uses of and ways to display the flag.
  2. Capitalization and Washington, D.C.- In this unit, students learn and practice capitalizing names of cities, states, countries, streets, buildings, bridges, and geographical places around the theme of Washington, D.C.
  3. Eat Your State- A project for any state study. Students make edible maps depicting a state's natural resources.
  4. History of the Local Community- The purpose of this activity package is to provide students with activities which will familiarize them with the local area they live in and develop an awareness of how their local community has been influenced by history.
  5. History: Up Close and Personal- Students may not know the history of their own community nor that of their own family. Therefore, this assignment was devised to bring history "up close and personal."
  6. Geography ~ Introduction to the United States - To have students be able to recognize the fifty states through song. To have the students be able to locate their two states on a map the following day.
  7. Knowing Where You Are- Students research place names in their state and discover and analyze the varied sources of these place names.
  8. Land Bridge Theory of Migration- The purpose of this activity is to allow students to work within their groups on problem solving skills and coming to a group consensus on an issue while introducing them to the study of early Wyoming history.
  9. "Let Me Tell You About My State!"- The purpose of this activity is to develop an awareness of the concepts ofthe United States through the Amateur Radio communication services.
  10. Life on the Mississippi Past and Present- To familiarize students with the importance of the river with its transportation, drinking water, food, commercial purposes, and travel.
  11. Made in the U.S.A.- Students map products made in the United States.
  12. Mini Study of a State- The students will learn to do research while comparing their state with one of the states of the U.S.
  13. Nevada Trilogy- To give students a greater appreciation of what accomplishments and hardships the early emigrant parties were faced with and went through.
  14. Our Government Scavenger Hunt - Students go on a paper scavenger hunt to learn about the United States Constitution and government.
  15. "Play Doh" Map of Your State- This activity has been utilized to teach students the geographic layout of the state of Arizona. It can surely be applied to any state in the nation.
  16. 'Promote a City' Posters- During a unit on state history this lesson will help students better understand his or her own state and the variety of places to visit close to home.
  17. Seeking Super Cities - Did you ever want to move to another city in the United States? If so, come travel with us on a Super City Search. Researchers, start your engines!
  18. Sing Me a Song About the USA- Students will create a song that relates to a specific geographic area of the United States. Through this process, they will come to a better understanding of how music reflects traditions in various cultures, and how geography affects both culture and music.
  19. State Brochure- A printable template for making a state brochure. This template could be adapted for making a country brochure as well.
  20. State Mottos- The library media specialist may work with the classroom teacher to introduce students to the use of the card catalog to locate resources about states in the United States.
  21. State Names- Using multiple representations, students analyze the frequency of letters that occur in the names of all 50 states.
  22. The Fifty Nifty States- The learner will be able to locate the fifty states on a map while using a guide to help. The learner will also be able to locate where specific states are by using the correct vocabulary (North, South, East, and West).
  23. Traveling the U. S.- This will provide an opportunity to develop language arts and social studies skills, as well as knowledge and competence in using technology. A variation of this unit would involve limiting their state to Hawaii.
  24. United States All the Way- Students will love to learn about their country's patriotic symbols and will have a book that will show their pride at the conclusion of the lesson.
  25. Vacation Destination - Students use their research skills to collect and present information in persuasive speeches by acting as travel agents trying to persuade classmates to visit their states while on vacation.
  26. Where in the World Did This Come From?- To develop a sense of interdependence with people who live in other countries and to appreciate that many people in far away places contribute greatly to our well being and lifestyle.
  27. Who Wants to Be a Millionaire in the U.S.A.? - Students learn facts and select information about other states by playing a form of Who Wants to be a Millionaire? where they create questions and gather information to answer questions by using a variety of reference sources.
