Lesson Plan Title : Shamrock Alphabet Match

Age Range: Kindergarten through grade 2 (Primary)

Overview and Purpose: Students use this shamrock matching game to practice their uppercase and lowercase letters. This game is easy for students to play as a whole class or alone in a center.

Objective: The student will be able to match uppercase and lowercase letters using a shamrock memory game.

Resources:

52 felt shamrocks-each with an uppercase or lowercase letter written on it

Felt board

Activities:

Place the shamrocks in a random order face down on the felt board. Have the students take turns trying to make a match of a lowercase and uppercase letter. When they make a match, you can leave the letters turned face up or remove them from the playing area. You can also divide the class into two teams and have them compete against each other to see who can make the most matches.

Wrap Up:

This game can be played in a center as a letter review for students. They can also play a "What's Missing?" game with it. One student puts some of the pairs of letters up but leaves one uppercase or lower case letter off the board. The other student tries to figure out which letter is missing before an egg timer runs out.
