Lesson Plan Title : A Leprechaun Trap

Age Range: Grade 6 through grade 8 (Middle School)

Overview and Purpose: Students will enjoy working together to design a Leprechaun trap. They will need to create a plan to gather the materials and create a working trap which they can demonstrate.

Objective: The student will be able to use various materials to make the trap to catch a Leprechaun.

Resources:

Various materials requested or provided by the students

Activities:

Explain to the students that they're going to make a trap to catch a Leprechaun. Remind them that Leprechaun's are very sneaky and smart so their traps will have to be clever. They will need a way to lure the Leprechaun into the trap and then a way to keep him there. Divide the class into groups and have them work together to plan their trap. They should make a list of materials they need and create a diagram. They can then make a working model.

Wrap Up:

When the students have completed their traps, have them demonstrate them for the class. You can continue this lesson by having students develop a commercial advertising their trap. You can videotape the commercials and play them back for the class.
