Spanish Lesson Plans

  1. America, Sin Fronteras!- The students explore the meaning of the word América, through the learning of the song, ˇAmerica! by the group, Los Tigres del Norte.
  2. Bilingual Animals- The goal of this lesson is to teach children that animals may be called one thing in English and another in Spanish.
  3. Building Communities/Construyendo Comunidades- This is an interdisciplinary, multiage, multinational learning lesson for our students and for ourselves. The students involved includes level III and IV high school Spanish, and 4th, 5th and 6th grade Spanish students.
  4. "Chocolate--The Food of the Gods"- Learn aspects of the Mayan and Aztec civilizations and the Spanish conquest.
  5. Clown Books- Students will create a booklet during the year for review of learned vocabulary.
  6. Comida- Students will improve their writing skills with regards to descriptive elements, essay organization and structure, and the difference between the Spanish Preterite and Imperfect verb tenses.
  7. Contents of My Backpack- Students will learn the vocabulary of school supplies in Spanish. The will use the new vocabulary to communicate in Spanish.
  8. Counting in Spanish- Students will be able to identify the Spanish numbering system from 0-10.
  9. Cultural Aspects of Spanish in America- A article that displays a technique for teaching Spanish in America.
  10. El Sabor del Caribe/ A Taste of the Caribbean- Students analyze literature created by modern Latino authors who use foods as symbols for identity, patriotism, religion, and nostalgia.
  11. Electronic Flash Cards for Spanish- The idea behind this project is to mimic, in an electronic format, flashcards as they are used to learn Spanish.
  12. Geography of Spain- Increase working vocabulary in Spanish by 35-60 words, expressions and recombinations in relation to the geography of Spain, the life of Celia Cruz and the song "La negra tiene tumbao".
  13. Hablo Espanol!- A PDF File. A complete unit on greetings.
  14. Hispanic Festivals- Compare and contrast traditions associated with three holidays that are celebrated in both the fifty US states and one or more Spanish-speaking areas.
  15. Hispanic World Unit- In this unit, students will conduct primary and secondary research to know the "hispanohablantes" in the world. These explorations will serve as windows for these Spanish-speaking countries for students to acquire information and impression from different perspectives.
  16. Implementing Baleros into the Classroom- A sophistocated look at the us of Baleros written by the Balero Players’ Association International.
  17. In My Other Life- To challenge stereotypes about cultures unfamiliar to us; to expand awareness of the range of factors that help constitute a cultural identity; to research, organize, and present information about everyday life in an unfamiliar culture; to create an imaginative firsthand account of life in an unfamiliar culture.
  18. In the Big City- The student will be able to ask questions, in Spanish, about where they are and how to get to a specific place. They will also know how to give directions, such as: go straight, turn right/left.
  19. Intermediate Foreign Language Lessons- These intermediate-level lessons (originally designed to accompany a BBC language series) include listening excerpts and multiple-choice questions based on those excerpts.
  20. Introductory Spanish- Includes sound files with pronunciations.
  21. Introductions in Spanish- The students will introduce a classmate in Spanish after interviewing that student using basic Spanish phrases learned in class.
  22. La Tienda de departamentos- The students will decorate the classroom like a department store, including prices in pesos. After, the students will prepare skits of varying lengths using the department store they have just created.
  23. Mas Arriba!- An electronic workbook designed to accompany the second edition of ˇArriba! Comunicación y cultura (Prentice Hall). However, you may discover that the exercise material of Más arriba can be adapted for use with other core textbooks.
  24. Mexican Food- This lesson introduces Mexican food and the history behind it. The main objective of this lesson is to introduce new food vocabulary to the students.
  25. Mexico: Language and Literature- The students will develop their language and literature skills and knowledge by engaging themselves within a realm of the Mexican culture.
  26. Mi Canto ("My Song")- Students will create an original poem in Spanish, reflecting their own personality traits and life goals. These poems will be written on large paper silhouettes and displayed.
  27. Musical Spanish- Multimedia site teaching Spanish through pop music like La Bamba. Free Spanish lessons, mp3s, animations, a teacher's guide to using songs in the classroom, and many good links.
  28. Plazas, Zocolas, and Squares- An effort has been made to ensure that students use multiple skills in the undertaking of this unit. Students will read authentic materials in Spanish. They will write descriptions of both historical and fictional events and characters in Spanish, and they will orally present their findings to the class using new vocabulary and expressions associated with the plaza mayores.
  29. Presentaciones de Danzas En La Ciudad De Mexico- We will be visiting a web site that will give information about theatrical presentations in Mexico City. As you answer the questions and supply information, be sure to use Spanish.
  30. Pronunciation rules of Spanish- Increase working vocabulary by 25-30 words, expressions and combinations related to the geography of the Spanish speaking world and classroom interactions.
  31. Spanishteacher.com- This site takes a while to load, but it has a vast array of resources for Spanish Teachers.
  32. Que Es?- Students will be able to use the Spanish-English dictionaries to translate familiar items into Spanish, recognize cognates and difference between word sounds in English and Spanish.
  33. Que hora es? What time is it?- The students will be able to ask the time and respond the correct time in Spanish.
  34. Shapes in Spanish- Students will be able to differentiate objects based on contrast in physical characteristics such as color, texture, size and shape. Students will also be able to recognize and sort objects by color families.
  35. Spanish Body Parts- Identify and demonstrate an understanding of vocabulary for colors in Spanish.
  36. Spanish Booklet Covers- Students who have Spanish lessons once a week throughout the school year develop booklets about the life of a Spanish family. They use the computer to create covers for the booklets, and then they present their work by reading and showing the contents to other classes and to their parents.
  37. Spanish Head, Shoulder, Knees, Toes- Students will use the Spanish terms for parts of the body in the traditional "Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes."
  38. Spanish Lesson 2- Instead of getting a pronunciation of a particular word, you select the audio clip that accompanies a particular section (such as the Nouns or the Colors).
  39. Spanish Lesson 3: en la escuela (at school)- The numbers from 100 to 999999 are covered, regular -ar verb conjugation is introduced, you'll learn some question-and-answer words, and you'll find out how to tell time in Spanish.
  40. Spanish Literature- STUDENTS WILL CREATE A SPANISH LITERATURE BOOK TO BETTER UNDERSTAND STORIES.
  41. Spanish Menu: An Internet Learning Experience- After learning the foods in Spanish have them create menu descriptions using Preterit forms of the verbs. I allowed each of the groups half of the class period (because we do not have a computer lab) to do research on the Internet.
  42. Spanish Terminology for the Family- To learn the Spanish terminology for family members; to learn how to use Microsoft Power Point; to learn how to use a scanner.
  43. Spanish Writing Proficiency: Visual Enhancement of Letter- The overall goal of this project was to develop the students' writing proficiency in Spanish through "real" experiences rather than classroom exercises.
  44. ˇTarjetas Postales!- Students design postcards to reflect the life and/or work of a Spanish-speaking artist. Students also write personal messages in Spanish for practice in vocabulary terms that have to do with traveling, greetings & farewells, food, climate, and other such typical themes found on postcards.
  45. "Tasty Tidbits From Spain"- The students will gain and use vocabulary which deals with some Spanish foods.
  46. Teach Spanish.com- Hundreds of links to teacher resources, teacher web sites, student hot spots, Latin/Spanish music sites, schools & study abroad.
  47. Team Teaching-Spanish- Students will practice making public presentations of basic Spanish language grammar concepts.
  48. Temas Internet Activities- 10 on-line activities to use with your classes.
  49. The Language Bank- To provide practice in reading, listening to, and writing in a foreign language; to expand vocabulary and command of idiom in a foreign language; to gain greater understanding of a foreign culture; to raise awareness of the practical importance of foreign language skills in a global society.
  50. ""To Know Spanish" or "To Know Spanish""- The students will practice speaking Spanish and the grammar of the chapter along with showing the class a skill that they enjoy.
  51. Un Muralista Mexicana- To become acquainted with the work of a muralist.
  52. Una Visita al Zoo de Madrid- In this activity we will be visiting the web site for the Zoo in Madrid, Spain.
  53. Uno, Dos, Tres- Students will be able to count from zero to twenty in Spanish, say the Spanish alphabet with its 30 letters (5 vowels), and recognize all the phonetic sounds.
  54. Web Spanish Lessons- Lessons to teach basic knowledge, grammar, and vocabulary for Mexican Spanish.
  55. What's in a Name?- Students will develop an understanding of the connections among languages.
