Bugs! Lesson Plan-
"Students will tear colored paper into shapes appropriate to imaginary
insects. Shapes will be arranged and glued to a background sheet."
Bug
Go- "Bug-go is designed to help the players learn to identify
some insects while learning which insects are beneficial and interesting
facts about others."
Butterfly
& Caterpillar- Investigate and understand basic needs and life processes
of plants and animals. Plants and animals live and die (go through a life
cycle) Off springs of plants and animals are similar but not identical
to their parents and one another.
Butterfly
or Moth?- This lesson focuses on the how to differentiate butterflies
from moths.
Choose
an Insect- Students will write a short report addressing important
facts about particular insects' lifestyle.
Classroom
Mascots- An insect unit isn't complete without live insects in the
classroom. Many students like to bring insects for 'show and tell.'
Crazy
Critters- The purpose of this lesson is to allow students the opportunity
to explore and collect insects from a local park. The students will return
to class and record the habitat in which the insect lived.
How
Fast Do Ants Go?- This activity is designed so students can make discoveries
about some important aspects of biology as a science.
Insect
Condominiums- The student will use problem solving techniques and
critical thinking skills in order to construct and maintain a home specifically
suited to his/ her insect pet.
Insect
Survival: camouflage- The student will draw conclusions regarding
the advantages of camouflage in nature; the student will also observe
the consequences of environmental alteration, whether natural or man made,
and the process of natural selection.
Insects
at Home- At the end of this activity the student will have searched
their house and surrounding neighborhood for insects. The students will
complete a chart that will help the students organize the name, physical
description, location where found, and any unique characteristics of the
insect.
Insect
Travel Brochure- This activity is intended to help students in understanding
habitat, and the different producers and consumers within a habitat. This
is an activity for seventh graders that will take 2-3 days to complete.
Insects
Throughout Time- This unit is comprised of a series of activities
to have children discover the presence and importance of insects throughout
history.
Insects
We Love and Hate- This lesson is about insects rather than parasites,
but it teaches students about some insect parasites (e.g., mosquitoes
and lice) as well as about insects in general.
The
Internal Anatomy of the Grasshopper- By identifying the internal anatomy
of the grasshopper, the students will begin to discover that organisms
have organs that function similar to those of humans.
Learning
in Cockroaches- To see, if by providing a positive stimulus, students
can detect learning in cockroaches. A secondary purpose is to provide
students with the opportunity to carefully observe and work with an insect
they normally find offensive.
Let's
Create An Ecosystem- Introduce students to the concept of ecosystems
by allowing student to create their own ecosystem in a jar.
Little Me
In A Big World- Over a three or four day period while looking at obstacles
that humans and insects encounter, students will predict, observe and
record strategies to overcome them using discussions, role play, and charts.
Spiders
and Insects- Students will be able to identify the characteristics
of spiders and insects. They will be able to compare and contrast spiders
and insects.
Termite
Trails- Students will observe the behavior of termites and draw conclusions
about their behavior.
Using
Insects in the Classroom- The objectives of this page are to give
educators basic information about insects and ideas on how to use insects
in the classroom.
What
Are Ecosystems?- The student will be able to recognize and understand
ecosystems.
What
Insect Am I- The students will be able to identify different types
of insects as they process information given to them.
Who
Lives Here?- The students will participate in an activity that will
reinforce the importance of adaptations and camouflage in a habitat.
